Ukraine Dollar and Euro Rates Surge, Nearing Highs

In a morning trade update on December 30, the average selling rate of the US dollar in Ukraine climbed by 20 kopecks, reaching 42.40 hryvnias (UAH), while the euro also rose by 20 kopecks, reaching 44.40 UAH.

Exchange offices are buying dollars at an average of 41.90 UAH, and euros at 43.70 UAH.

Meanwhile, interbank currency trading stood at 41.96-41.99 UAH/dollar (bid-ask), marking a one-kopiyka decrease from the previous day’s close.

Central Bank Intervention

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has hiked the official dollar rate after three consecutive days of declines. Effective December 30, 2024, the official rate is 41.9403 UAH per USD, up by 0.0956 UAH. The official euro rate stands at 43.7479 UAH per EUR, an increase of 0.2357 UAH.

Market Dynamics

November saw increased demand for foreign currency, with the NBU selling a record weekly total of 1.625 billion USD on the interbank market between December 23 and 27, marking the highest volume since the start of the conflict. The NBU had anticipated and welcomed this surge, committing to meet the growing demand and offsetting the deficit.
