Article:

The job market in your country took a significant downturn as we approached the close of 2024, with job advertisements declining by 39% compared to the previous month. According to a monthly analysis by HR company and career site "Job Tiger", this equated to nearly 15,000 fewer job listings on a monthly basis, bringing the total to approximately 23,200 by month’s end. Year-over-year, the decrease was 23%, with around 7,000 fewer jobs listed compared to December 2023.

The primary reason for this substantial drop, according to "Job Tiger", was the combination of holiday closures and fewer working days at the end of the month. This resulted in extended holiday periods accounting for nearly a third of the month, leading to significantly reduced activity from both employers and job seekers.

A similar trend was observed in November, with job advertisements decreasing by 8% on a monthly basis and increasing by 3% compared to November 2023. As we look ahead to 2025 and the start of the working season, "Job Tiger" expects job listings to increase. Key factors influencing market trends will include year-over-year job listings in various sectors and the continued demand for remote work, particularly in the IT sector.

The sharp decline in job postings in December affected every sector, with all recording double-digit percentage decreases. The most significant drops were seen in "Retail and Sales" (3560 fewer listings, a 37% decrease), followed by "Production" (2760 fewer listings, a 44% decrease) and "Hospitality and Catering" (1770 fewer listings, a 36% decrease). On a year-over-year basis, all sectors also experienced declines.

In terms of job distribution, "Retail and Sales" led the way with 26%, followed by "Production" at 15% and "Hospitality and Catering" at 13%. Other sectors, such as "Administrative and Support Services", "Logistics and Transportation", IT, "Healthcare and Pharmacy", "Accounting, Audit, Finance", and "Marketing and Advertising", followed, with "Arts" bringing up the rear at 1%.

Job listings for remote or work-from-home positions also saw a 34% decrease on a monthly basis, with a total of 2,100 such listings available. Compared to the same period last year and the start of 2024, this figure was 34% and 17% lower, respectively. As a percentage of total job listings, these positions accounted for 10% in December.

These remote positions were most prevalent in the IT sector (55%), followed by "Administrative and Support Services" (16%), BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) industries (15%), and "Retail and Sales" (8%).

Lastly, job listings in major cities, including Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, and Stara Zagora, also experienced significant declines, ranging from 38% to 44%. In terms of market share, Sofia accounted for 45% of listings, while Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, and Stara Zagora accounted for 10%, 7%, 3%, 3%, and 2%, respectively.
