Man Arrested in Sextortion Ring; Multiple Teenagers Affected
A 21-year-old man from Spijkenisse, Netherlands, has been apprehended following an extensive American-led investigation into sextortion, a crime where victims are blackmailed or extorted with intimate images. The local police confirmed the arrest and revealed that several minors have been victimized.
"Our investigation is ongoing and continues to be led by our colleagues in Rotterdam‘s vice unit," police stated. "More victims are sadly not ruled out."
Authorities refused to divulge the exact number of victims or their locations. The suspect is yet to be questioned, making it too early for further details, according to a spokesperson. It also remains unclear how the investigation involving the man in America was initiated.
The suspect is set to appear before a magistrate judge on Thursday, who will then decide if he will remain in custody.
