A magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred in Turkey at 1:34 PM, as reported by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAN). The epicenter was located 348 kilometers from Sofia at a depth of 5 kilometers. The tremors were felt in Kardzhali.

A significant earthquake that struck southeastern Turkey on Friday afternoon was also felt in the Bulgarian city of Kardzhali, according to local reports and residents. The magnitude 6.6 temblor, which occurred at around 1:30 PM local time, was centered in the town of Eruh in Siirt Province, Turkey.

Witnesses in Kardzhali, located about 150 kilometers north of the epicenter, reported feeling the earthquake. "It was quite sudden and lasted for a few seconds," said one resident who spoke with Nova TV. "The furniture and windows were shaking. It was quite scary."

The tremor caused some panic among local residents, but there were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries in either country. In Turkey, the government’s disaster management agency, AFAD, stated that there were no reports of deaths or damage, despite social media posts showing Alanya Province residents leaving their homes due to the earthquake.

The earthquake was also felt in other neighboring countries, including Syria, Lebanon, and Greece. It was followed by more than a dozen aftershocks, with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.5.

This is not the first time that earthquakes from Turkey have been felt in Bulgaria. In 1901, an earthquake based in theஙTurkish city of Drama caused damage in Sofia and other Bulgarian cities. More recently, in 2011, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Van, Turkey, was Also felt in several Bulgarian cities, including Sofia, Plovdiv, and Stara Zagora.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov expressed his relief on Twitter, stating that the earthquake did not cause damage or injuries in Bulgaria, and he expressed his solidarity with the people of Turkey.
