Headline: Efteling Bans Grey-water Dumping; Visitors Struggle with Litter

Efteling, the popular theme park in Kaatsheuvel, has implemented a strict new policy aimed at enhancing cleanliness and sustainability. From now on, visitors will no longer be allowed to dump grey water from their camper vans into the park’s sewage system.

The park management cited several reasons for the ban. Firstly, grey water—wastewater from showers, sinks, and washing machines— contains chemicals, dirt, and food particles that can damage the park’s ageing sewage system. Secondly, the ban is part of Efteling’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The new policy has taken some visitors by surprise.Reports suggest that confused and inconvenienced guests have been seen wandering the park with large bags of collected litter, struggling to find a suitable disposal point. The park has stationed extra waste management teams to assist visitors in adhering to the new rules.

Efteling spokesperson, Foppe van-Dijk, clarifies, "We understand that this change might cause some initial inconvenience, but we believe it’s a necessary step towards preserving our beautiful park and protecting the environment."

The park has issued clear guidelines on the correct disposal of grey water and other waste. Visitors are encouraged to use designated dumping stations outside the park or treat their grey water on-site to remove harmful substances before disposal.

This move by Efteling underscores the park’s dedication to balancing guest enjoyment with responsible environmental management—a challenge many other tourist attractions are also facing.
