In a dramatic turn of events, a young woman was rescued from the frigid waters off The Edge hotel in Tromsø early Wednesday morning. The woman, whose age and identity have not been disclosed, was spotted in the sea around 00:15 and immediately, emergency services were alerted. The police, along with hotel staff, swiftly responded to the emergency.

"She’s a younger woman, and we’re not sure how long she was in the water or how she ended up there," said police incident commander, Espen Wang. A brave employee from The Edge hotel was the first to act, jumping into the water to help the woman before rescue services arrived.

A significant joint effort involving numerous emergency services was launched. Wang praised the hotel employee’s quick thinking and decisive action, stating that their intervention helped save valuable time. "They contributed significantly to getting the woman onto land before our boat resources arrived," Wang told Nordlys.

Despite their brave act, the hotel employee wishes to remain out of the limelight and extends hope for the woman’s speedy recovery. "We’re thinking of the woman and those close to her," they remarked.

The Edge hotel’s director, Ida Jakobsen, expressed gratitude and pride in her staff’s heroic efforts. "Our thoughts are with the woman and her loved ones," she added, emphasizing the importance of supporting their colleague in the aftermath.

Wang mentioned that the woman is receiving further medical attention at the University Hospital of North Norway (UNN) but declined to comment on her condition. UNN also chose not to comment on the matter.

Police investigators are treating the incident as a case of drowning, with no signs of foul play thus far. They emphasized that the situation is serious. "We’re still working with the woman and plan to retrieve CCTV footage from the area as part of our investigation," Wang said.
