Microsoft Empowers PowerPoint Users with SRT File Support for Captions and Subtitles
In a significant stride towards enhancing accessibility, Microsoft has rolled out a new feature for Microsoft PowerPoint users. Now, you can import SRT files to add text or subtitles to your presentations, streamlining the process and saving you time.
With this update, creating captions for videos in PowerPoint becomes more straightforward and efficient. This not only makes your content more inclusive but also ensures wider accessibility, particularly for users who require accessibility features.
How it Works
According to Microsoft’s official page, adding captions using SRT files is quite simple:
- First, embed the video into your presentation.
- Then, select Playback > Insert Caption (or Video) > Edit Caption > Insert Caption from file in PowerPoint for Web.
- Choose the SRT file you have.
After embedding the video and adding the caption, you can display the captions by clicking on the caption button while playing the video.
Many applications and services support SRT, including Microsoft’s own recommendation, Clipchamp, for creating and editing SRT files.

To use this feature, ensure you meet the following requirements:
- Windows: Current Channel Version 2411 (Build 18227.10000) or later.
- macOS: Current Channel Version 16.91 (Build 24111020) or later.
- Web: Build 16.0.18306.40500 or later on Windows or macOS.
