Enforced Today: Motor Vehicle Owners Face This Tax Rate in Crackdown

Headline: New Pajak Kendaraan Bermotor (PKB) Surcharge in Indonesia: What You Need to Know

Body:

Living in Indonesia, the transition into a new month isn’t just about new beginnings, but also about understanding changes in our financial responsibilities. The Indonesian government has recently announced the implementation of a new tax surcharge on motor vehicle taxes (Pajak Kendaraan Bermotor, PKB), which came into effect on May 1, 2023. Let’s dive in to understand what this means for you.

Understanding the PKB Surcharge

The PKB surcharge is an additional tax introduced through Law Number 1 of 2022, which regulates the financial relationship between the central government and regional governments. Understanding this surcharge is crucial as it will impact both your vehicle tax payments and regional government revenue.

Currently, there are seven components that make up the motor vehicle tax that you, as a vehicle owner, must pay. These include BBN KB, BBN KB surcharge, PKB, PKB surcharge, SWDKLLJ, STNK administration fee, and TNKB administration fee. With the introduction of the PKB and BBN KB surcharges, the total number of tax components could increase to nine. Therefore, those purchasing new vehicles in 2023 will be subjected to an additional two taxes.

The calculation of these new taxes is quite straightforward. For instance, if your vehicle is subject to a PKB of Rp1 million, the PKB surcharge will be an additional Rp660,000, calculated as 66% of the PKB. Similarly, the BBN KB surcharge is calculated as 66% of the BBN KB. These surcharges will be paid alongside the regular vehicle tax.
