"Chaos on the Zeedijk: Locals and Tourists appalled by Mountain of Trash, City Responds

Residents and tourists alike have expressed shock and frustration at the state of the Zeedijk, with reports describing it as one of the worst they’ve ever seen. "I’ve never seen it so messy here," said a local. "Usually there are containers and trash bags are quickly cleaned up. But today, it’s a real mess," they added, pointing to the heaps of garbage strewn about.

A tourism remarked from Turkey, commenting, "The streets there are much cleaner. It’s quite unpleasant for passersby, as you can barely walk on the sidewalk." Another passerby echoed these sentiments, "For the bystanders, it’s very unpleasant because you can’t even walk on the sidewalk."

While several people have reported the mess, it seems the trash has yet to be cleared. The municipality claims their waste collection service has been by, but the trash was subsequently left on the street, a claim that local business owners dispute.

The municipality acknowledged the issue, stating, "We find the amount of waste on the Zeedijk very unpleasant for both residents and entrepreneurs. This morning, two rounds of household waste collection were already performed, but more bags were added afterwards. The business waste, which should be collected by an external party, has also not been collected. Tonight, an additional waste collection round and a cleaning team will be deployed to ensure the Zeedijk is clean again tomorrow."
