Epic Games Confirms 1 in 137,500 Pirate Token Drop Rate for Fortnite

Epic Games confirmed a 1 in 137,500 drop rate for Fortnite’s ultra-rare Pirate Token after a week of intense player backlash, boycott threats, and social media speculation.

EpicGG reported an 80% player jump the day the event went live. Epic launched its Treasure Hunters mini-season on November 1, introducing One Piece skins, a smaller island map, and the coveted Pirate Token inside normal matches. Players who manage to find the item receive two activations, unlocking a 14-day window during which eligible Item Shop cosmetics can be claimed without spending V-Bucks, according to Dexerto. Each Pirate Token can be activated twice, once in 2026 and once in 2027, and for 14 days players can claim more or less anything sold in the shop. Real-money offers, gifting, and Battle Pass rewards remain excluded from the promotion.

Players spent days opening chests in the dark because Epic did not publish percentage odds at launch. Some fans on social media called for a permanent boycott. Others attempted to report Epic to the Federal Trade Commission, as IGN reported.

Epic Reveals Drop Rates

The official Fortnite Status account on X published the exact drop rates for the mini-season’s chest loot on November 7. The breakdown confirms that finding Pirate Shop Access is exceedingly difficult, though it is not even the rarest item in the pool. Epic also noted that players cannot receive the same treasure twice, except for Gizmos.

Item Normal Match Odds
Weekly Gold Outfit 1:1,562,500
Pirate Shop Access 1:137,500
Weekly Vehicle & Decal 1:7,813
Weekly Pickaxe or Backbling 1:568
Weekly Jam Track 1:391
Weekly Loading Screen 1:272
Gizmo (any) 1:127

Epic stated that these drop rates have remained constant since the season launched and do not vary throughout the day, except during scheduled Treasure Hours. During those special windows, the Pirate Shop Access rate receives a 1.5x multiplier, while the weekly gold outfit gets a 7.5x boost, according to Droidfeats. The team noted that Treasure Hours drop rates may be even higher in future windows. Epic noted that Treasure Hours drop rates may be even higher in future windows. An Egyptian Fortnite leaker pointed out that a dev system named Clover was utilized to modify odds behind the scenes.

Sellers List Accounts on eBay Before Epic Issues Warnings

IGN reported that accounts containing tokens were listed for sale on eBay for thousands of dollars before those listings were taken down. In response to the resale activity, Epic issued a warning stating that buying an account or using fake tools is a scam, as noted by El Balad. Forbes debunked player theories suggesting lower-level accounts held an advantage, while prominent leaker Hypex discussed potential power hours that could increase spawn rates.
