Title: ‘El Mencho’ del CJNG Elfue el 2024: ¿Dónde está el líder narcotraficante más buscado?
Round one of the year and Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho’, leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), remains at large. Despite the multiple changes in Mexico‘s criminal landscape and the intensification of efforts by US authorities against drug trafficking, ‘El Mencho’ has not been located by either Mexican or US authorities.
The most recent report on the possible whereabouts of ‘El Mencho’ was released by Cartel Insider on December 18. According to journalist Mica Treviño, ‘El Mencho’ is hiding out in a ranch called ‘Punta del Cielo’, just six kilometers from the center of Tomatlán, Jalisco. The ranch is secluded, surrounded by valleys and green zones.
Tomatlán, located in the Costa Sur region of Jalisco, is known for its rich natural beauty, with landscapes combining mountains, rivers, mangroves, and beaches. The area is also a hub for agriculture, famous for its mango, banana, and pineapple crops. Its coastal location provides a warm, humid climate perfect for biodiversity.
However, ‘El Mencho’ hasn’t been quiet in Tomatlán. Reports suggest he has been active in the region, with suspected sightings and collaborator network expansions. The DEA has marked several areas in Colima, Jalisco, and Michoacán as ‘El Mencho’s’ territory, forming their own ‘Golden Triangle’, similar to the Sinaloa Cartel’s northwestern region.
Last year, journalist Raymundo Riva Palacio revealed another possible location of ‘El Mencho’ in Jalisco. In his column ‘El secuestro de Jaime Barrera’, published in El Financiero on March 14, Riva Palacio stated that the Mexican military had been tracking ‘El Mencho’ for over three years. According to his sources, ‘El Mencho’ lived in El Grullo, a Jalisco municipality bordering Nayarit.
On December 4, the US government announced an increase in the reward offered by the State Department for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of ‘El Mencho’. The reward is now $15 million (approximately 300 million pesos), a $5 million increase from the previous $10 million offer.
‘EL Mencho’ has been involved in multiple drug trafficking and weapon-related cases since 2017. Despite numerous accusations and rewards, he remains as an elusive figure, withMexican and US authorities yet to apprehend him.
