Ukraine Uncovers Over 2000 Suspicious Disability Cases; Minister Vows Thorough Investigation

Ukraine’s Ministry of Health has revealed that more than 2,000 cases of suspected fraudulent disability claims have been transferred to authorities for investigation. Minister of Health, L.B., stated, "We have already reviewed close to a thousand cases, with 188 instances of suspected fraud leading to the revocation of disability status. Another 388 individuals have been called in for re-evaluation at our specialized institute. It’s clear that the truth always finds its way to the surface."

The revelation comes amidst a sweeping corruption scandal that has rocked Ukraine’s network of Medical-Social Expert Commissions (MSEC). In a shocking turn of events, the head of Hmelnytskyi Oblast’s MSEC, T.K., was caught issuing fake disability certificates to military draft dodgers in exchange for substantial bribes. Authorities seizures guns, cars, and nearly $6 million in cash during a raid on her property.

This initial expose set off a larger investigation, revealing that T.K. had approved certificates for around 50 local prosecutors, granting them disability status. In response, the Office of the General Prosecutor launched a nationwide probe, uncovering widespread abuse of the system – 1 in 20 prosecutors across the country was found to have obtained a disability group.

General Prosecutor A.K. stepped down in the wake of the scandal, and President V.Z. ordered the dismantling of the MSEC system, aiming to implement a reformed structure by 2025. The Minister of Health assured the public that every case would be thoroughly investigated, vowing to restore transparency and integrity to the disability evaluation process.
