Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that the sport has developed contingency plans for the 2027 calendar to account for ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East. Hockenheim, which last hosted an F1 race in 2019, has initiated contact with F1 leadership regarding a return. The venue now operates under a new ownership and investment model, distinct from the previous era that saw the track exit the calendar due to a lack of government funding.
“It was Hockenheim that connected with us, and they had the first discussion,” Domenicali said. He emphasized that any return would require a different investment structure to align with the current requirements of the F1 platform. According to Domenicali, F1 is prioritizing growth in Europe as the market demonstrates significant renewed interest and robust attendance numbers.
