Authorities are seeking prosecution against a Lithuanian man accused of defrauding and robbing elderly residents in Riga, Daugavpils and Liepāja, police reported. The suspect is also known to law enforcement in other Baltic states for similar offenses.
Deceptive Tactics
The investigation revealed that the 1985-born Lithuanian citizen posed as an electrician to gain the trust of his victims. In one instance, he followed a senior woman home and falsely claimed he needed to check her electricity meter, alleging an overpayment. He then requested 90 euros, claiming to have 200 euros available, and stole the money when she provided it. In another case, he disabled the electricity supply and gained access to a home under the pretense of inspecting electrical outlets before robbing the residents.
Police indicate the suspect operated differently in each case, devising unique ways to exploit and rob elderly individuals. A total of 11 offenses have been identified.
The criminal process was initiated concerning theft and attempted theft, including entering dwellings, and robbery when committed inside a dwelling.
