Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare Rejects Drug Narrative
Harris County District Attorney Abc13 has publicly questioned the federal agency’s focus on the substances found in the van. In a social media statement, Teare noted that based on what we’ve learned about the passengers, it’s inconsistent that drugs were in the van.
Teare further criticized the decision to make the search warrant application public, describing it as truly unique
in his 20-year career. He emphasized that the results of the FBI’s laboratory testing, which he expects to be released within days, would not alter the fundamental facts of the shooting itself. This is a red herring that really has no bearing on a death investigation,
Teare told reporters, reiterating that the primary focus remains on the justification of the deadly force used by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Mayor John Whitmire faced criticism for his handling of the public comment session, during which he admonished attendees for their use of explicit language and disruptive behavior. Council Member Edward Pollard highlighted the underlying tension, noting that the city’s reliance on state and federal investigations has caused confusion. It just baffles me that in a time of uncertainty, we are leaning on the state government and the federal government on an issue that affects Houstonians when we should be taking the lead ourselves,
Pollard said.
