Breaking: Soldier Beats Sumy Man to Death; Investigation Ongoing
Sumy, Ukraine — A chilling incident has shaken the quiet Ukrainian city of Sumy. A local resident, identified as 40-year-old Yevhen K, was brutally beaten by a soldier, resulting in his death a few days later in the hospital.
The Incident
The incident occurred on December 29, 2024, on the premises of the Sumy Territorial Center for Compulsory Testing and Social Support (TCK). The victim’s relative, Natalia S, recounted that Yevhen had phoned his civil wife from an unknown number, stating he’d been taken to the TCK, had undergone a military medical commission, and would be sent to the army. Tragically, that was the last time they heard from him.
Aftermath
Yevhen was purportedly found in a drunken state, though his family denies this claim. He was rushed to the hospital with severe head injuries and slipped into a coma. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on January 1, 2025.
Investigation
Police swiftly responded and are treating the case as a suspected homicide. The soldier has been informed of the charges against him, namely a potential violation of Article 119 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine due to the fatal outcome. Investigations are ongoing to clarification the sequence of events leading up to the tragic incident.
The Sumy Regional TCK has expressed cooperation with the ongoing investigation, urging the public to refrain from speculating on unverified details.
Community Reaction
Local media outlet SumyToday reported that residents are shocked by the brutality of the crime. "This is a tragic reminder that violence has no place in our society," a Sumy resident anonymously told a reporter.
