Breaking: Tour Bus Driver Arrested After Fatal Crash in Batu
BATU, Indonesia —Authorities in Batu, East Java, have arrested the driver of a tourism bus that caused a deadly crash on Wednesday night, leaving four people dead. The driver is currently undergoing questioning.
"We have taken the driver into custody," said Commissioner Danang Yudanto of the Batu Police, speaking to KompasTV on Wednesday evening. Along with the driver, police are also gathering statements from witnesses, including other passengers and eye witnesses.
The accident reportedly occurred at around 7:15 PM local time, with early investigations suggesting the bus’s brake failure as the cause. Despite smooth traffic conditions at the time, the bus, purportedly due to its faulty brakes, couldn’t be controlled by the driver, leading to a collision with other vehicles.
Tragically, three adults and a toddler lost their lives in the crash, all occupants of the vehicles struck by the bus. The crash involved a tourism bus carrying a group of students and teachers from Bali.
"One of the buses was carrying a group of students and teachers from Denpasar, Bali, on a tourist visit," said Commissioner Danang. The bus accommodated 44 individuals, including 40 group members, two drivers, a steward, and a guide.
As investigations continue, police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. More details will be provided as they become available.
