- anterang, West Java — A bus driver involved in a fatal accident on the Cipularang Toll Road (Tol Cipularang) fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities. The incident, which took place early Thursday morning (26/12/2024) at around 2:15 AM WIB, claimed the lives of two individuals and left several others injured.
The collision occurred at Kilometer 80 in Babakancikao, Purwakarta, involving a bus carrying pilgrims from Tangerang. The bus, with the license plate B-7363-NGA, was initially traveling from Bandung towards Jakarta when it crashed into the rear of a truck ahead of it.
Purwakarta Police Chief, Kompol Joko, confirmed the bus driver’s initial attempt to flee the scene, making it difficult for authorities to immediately determine the cause of the accident. "The driver escaped, but our officers were able to apprehend him later," Joko said. The driver was subsequently taken for questioning and medical examination, as he was found to have sustained injuries.
Two individuals died at the scene, trapped beneath the wreckage, while several others suffered injuries. The bodies have been evacuated, and the injured have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
This latest crash on the Cipularang Toll Road follows a series of similar incidents involving buses and other heavy vehicles in recent months.Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extra caution and adhere to safety guidelines, particularly during crowded travel periods.
