Three Killed in Devastating Head-on Collision in Governor Virasoro
A tragic head-on collision on the national route 14 near Governor Virasoro has left three individuals dead. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, with the impact causing one vehicle to explode, complicating rescue efforts.
Scene of Devastation
The collision involved a Toyota and a Nissan. Carlos Santander, a Paraguayan national, was traveling in the Toyota and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries instantly. The Toyota’s fuel tank ruptured, leading to an explosion and fire, which spread to the nearby brush, further intensifying the chaos. Local emergency services swiftly extinguished the fire.
Víctor Melgarejo, 49, and his wife, Gladys, 56, residents of Eldorado, were in the Nissan and did not survive the crash. Despite initial speculation, authorities have since ruled out excessive speed as the cause.
Investigation Underway
Although the primary responding authorities—including police, firefighters, and emergency services—moved quickly to secure the scene and remove the victims, the impacted vehicles’ conditions complicated their efforts. Consequently, the route was temporarily shut down, causing delays in vehicle traffic while they conducted their investigations.
As of now, the investigation into the precise cause of the crash continues.
