Officer Dies in Severe Highway Crash on D5 near Heřmanova Huť
A fatal accident on the D5 highway near Heřmanova Huť on the northern Plzeňsk region has claimed the life of a policeman. The officer, along with other rescuers and the driver of a personal car, was on the scene of an initial accident when a car lost control on the slippery road surface and collided with the crash barriers. A passing female driver failed to control her vehicle and veered into the emergency lane, colliding with the police service van and the first responders, including the policeman who succumbed to his injuries. The highway in the direction of Prague is currently closed to traffic, with vehicles being diverted to the exit at Heřmanova Huť.
The crash occurred at around 14:00 on the 98th kilometer of the D5 highway in the direction of Prague at the exit for Heřmanova Huť in the Plzeň – Severní district. According to initial police reports, four people were injured in the accident.
Traffic remains obstructed, and police are redirecting vehicles in the direction of Prague to the 100th exit. The highway is expected to remain shut in the vicinity of the crash for at least another two hours.
