The crash happened right outside the headquarters of the Vila do Conde Fire Department. According to the second commander of the corporation, Renato Vidal, a trailer operated by Procarro was traveling toward the city center from the A28 when it crossed out of its lane and collided head-on with a TJA truck moving in the opposite direction. The driver of the trailer, a man around 30 years of age, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
