In a tragic incident, four people lost their lives in a collision involving a bus and a truck on the Purwodadi-Lawang Toll Road on Monday afternoon, December 23, 2024.
AKP Puguh Winarno Kanit PJR Tol Jatim 4 confirmed the fatalities, stating, "There were four deaths. Initial information is that there are four fatalities."
All victims were bus passengers, including the bus driver, Puguh revealed. The deceased and injured have been evacuated to Lawang Medika Hospital and other nearby hospitals.
"The victims were part of a tourism group," Puguh added. Though the group’s origin was not specified, a banner on the back of the bus indicated they were from a middle school in Bogor.
Earlier, listeners of Radio Suara Surabaya reported the incident on Monday evening. A video sent in showed the bus colliding with a truck carrying white bagged cargo.
Puguh identified the crash site as "KM 77.400 A, Purwodadi toll road, heading towards Malang."
