Auckland Police Apprehend Gang Member Following Overnight Pursuit
Auckland City Police have taken a 27-year-old Head Hunters gang member into custody following a high-stakes incident that spanned several suburbs early Monday morning. The event, which began at approximately 1am, concluded after police utilized tactical measures to disable the suspect’s vehicle.

The incident began on Custom Street East, where officers signaled for a Jeep Grand Cherokee to stop. According to Senior Sergeant Shaun Richardson of the Auckland City Police, the driver failed to comply and fled the scene. While a formal pursuit was not initiated, the Police Eagle helicopter provided continuous aerial surveillance, tracking the vehicle as it traversed the motorway and crossed the Harbour Bridge.
The driver continued through Northcote, Glenfield, Albany, and Takapuna. During the transit, the vehicle was spiked on two separate occasions. Senior Sergeant Richardson noted that once the tyres had disintegrated, the vehicle came to a halt on Esmonde Road, where it was subsequently blocked in by responding officers.

Upon securing the vehicle, police conducted a search that resulted in the discovery of a quantity of methamphetamine. The 27-year-old driver faces a comprehensive list of charges, including:
- Possession of methamphetamine for supply
- Dangerous driving
- Driving while disqualified
- Possession of utensils for methamphetamine
- Failing to stop
- Breach of release conditions
In addition to these charges, the suspect’s vehicle has been impounded.
