UPI Student Dies in Gymnasium Incident; Forensic Team Examines Injuries
BANDUNG, Indonesia – A 21-year-old student from the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), identified as AM, died on December 26, 2024, after a fall in the university’s Gymnasium. Despite numerous injuries on her body, the cause of death remains inconclusive.
Dr. Nurul Aida Fathya, a specialist in forensic and medico-legal medicine at RS Bhayangkara Sartika Asih, led the forensic team that received the body around 7:30 PM WIB. Due to the family’s refusal for an autopsy, the team could only perform an external examination. The findings included:
- Bruises and lacerations on the face
- Cuts on the lower right leg
- Broken bones in the upper right leg
- Significant bleeding from the mouth, nose, and ears
The injuries were concentrated on the right side of her body, aligning with the side she fell on. Dr. Nurul noted, "As we could only examine the exterior, we cannot definitively determine the cause of death. We cannot assess internal conditions."
Dr. Nurul explained that the distribution of injuries suggests the right side was the first point of contact with the ground, indicating a fall. Most injuries were on the leg bones, possibly from impacts at different levels, but it’s uncertain if these injuries were fatal. Critical areas like the head need further examination to understand if they contributed to the death.
