FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund meet in the Bundesliga on Saturday at the Allianz Arena in Munich, with kickoff set for 6:30 PM local time (1:30 PM EST), as reported by Bavarian Football Works. Fans in the United States can stream the marquee fixture on Peacock in Spanish and USA or Fandango in English.
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund Lead the Bundesliga Table
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund enter the fixture as the only unbeaten teams after seven matchdays, sitting level on points at the top of the Bundesliga table with Bayern leading on goal difference, according to theScore. Yahoo notes that a four-point gap separates the top two from Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen. Bavarian Football Works adds that Bayern previously defeated Dortmund 2-1 in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup earlier in the season.
Rollercoaster Week for Bayern and Coach Absences
Bayern’s preparations for Der Klassiker unfolded against a backdrop of severe disruption, including coach Vincent Kompany’s hospitalization after collapsing on the training pitch two days following a 2-2 draw with Arsenal, as detailed by theScore. Diagnosed with meningeal irritation, Kompany was discharged after five days in the hospital, though assistant Aaron Danks noted it will likely be weeks before he returns to work. The team also dealt with the sudden death of Joshua Kimmich's father, which kept the Germany captain away on compassionate leave for three matches, alongside injuries to Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala, and Aleksandar Pavlovic. Luis Diaz has also battled injury issues for the defending champions.
Harry Kane Ballon d’Or Triumph and Torjägerkanone Chase
Harry Kane enters the fixture days after winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman to claim the honor since Michael Owen in 2001, per theScore. Yahoo points out that despite the individual accolade, Kane sits in an unfamiliar position in the domestic scoring race with four Bundesliga goals and five assists, trailing rejuvenated Niclas Füllkrug, who leads the Torjägerkanone race with eight goals. World Cup winner Lothar Matthaeus told AFP and other media that the Ballon d’Or should motivate Kane rather than slow him down, stating, When you win the Ballon d’Or, the story is not over. It has to motivate you.
Matthaeus added, For me, for sure it was an honour to win, but football is a team sport. This Ballon d’Or is not only for Kane, it’s also for Bayern Munich.
