Russian Strike on Ukrainian City of Zaporizhzhia: Residential Area and Public Transport Hit Amid Rush Hour
The Russian military struck the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia using unguided rockets in the late afternoon, targeting a residential area and public transportation as local residents were returning home from work, leaving at least 13 dead and over 110 injured.
"People were using minibuses to get home, that’s why we saw casualties in the minibuses and two of them destroyed. Those who were driving their cars also didn’t escape the impact, resulting in 36 vehicles being destroyed," said a local official, refuting Russia’s claims that the industrial district was the intended target.
The use of unguided Kompok bombs, or KABS, is seen as a reckless attack on civilians, as these weapons are notoriously inaccurate. Russia has been bombing Zaporizhzhia since September 2022, with around 2,000 residential buildings damaged or destroyed, and yesterday’s strike is just the latest in a series of intentional attacks on civilian areas.
"Russia is deliberately targeting residential zones, killing innocent people. All 113 casualties were civilians. It’s clear where their rockets landed – near administrative buildings, but right next to a main thoroughfare," stressed the official, highlighting the devastation caused by the unguided missiles.
The strike on Zaporizhzhia comes just a day after Russian missiles hit a shopping mall in Kremenchuk, killing at least 18 and wounding over 60, once again demonstrating Russia’s cruel disregard for civilian lives.
