Jalisco Police to Crack Down on Obscured License Plates: Drivers Face Fines Starting January 9

Article:

Starting January 9, drivers in Jalisco face fines for obstructed license plates. The Police Vial has announced that it will begin issuing infractions to drivers and motorcyclists whose vehicles have accessories impairing plate visibility.

The move aims to enforce the Jalisco Mobility and Traffic Safety Law, promoting road order and transparent vehicle identification. The practice of obscuring plates, often done to evade photo-enforced fines, violates Article 374 of the Mobility Law.

Officials warn that "rack" users for transporting bicycles must ensure their adittments do not obstruct plate visibility, as they too will be subject to fines for non-compliance.

Fines range from 150 to 200 times the value of the Unidad de Medida y Actualización (UMA), depending on the severity of the offense. Drivers are urged to regularize their vehicles to avoid penalties.

The Police Vial emphasizes its commitment to ensuring the law is followed, with this campaign being one of its key focus areas for 2025.
