"Five Hospitalized, Two Critical After Drunken Driver Crash in Surabaya"

Drunken Driver Chaos: Five Injured, Two Critical in Surabaya‘s Kenjeran and Pakuwon City Collisions

A total of five people were injured, with two in critical condition, following a series of collisions caused by a drunk driver in Surabaya’s Kenjeran and Pakuwon City areas on Monday afternoon, December 23, 2024.

The drunk driver, a 38-year-old man from Surabaya surnamed SU, was behind the wheel of a black Mercy sedan. According to Akbar Arif, the head of the Surabaya Metro Police Traffic Division, the driver initially struck a pedal cyclist in Pakuwon City before fleeing to Kenjeran Road, where he collided with multiple vehicles.

"We still haven’t received information about any fatalities, but we have critical patients with severe head injuries. There are five injured, two critically," Arif confirmed to suarasurabaya.net on Monday night.

From the initial investigations, it’s understood that SU’s vehicle first hit a motorized bicycle, then a motorcycle, before crashing into three stationary vehicles. There were six points of impact across Kenjeran Road, with varying distances between them.

Here are the details of the injured victims:

1. PN, a woman who suffered head injuries and is in critical condition, is being treated at RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya.
2. AG, a man with injuries to his head, shoulder, and foot, is at RS Haji Surabaya.
3. AA, a woman treated for leg and head injuries, is also at RS Haji Surabaya.
4. BE, a woman with head and leg injuries, is at RS unfsm Surabaya.
5. SS, a woman in critical condition with severe head injuries, lung and rib fractures, is being cared for at RSUD Dr. soetomo Surabaya.

The chaotic scene involved six points of impact along Kenjeran Road, with vehicles being struck and damaged sequentially.
