Augustana Men’s Swimming & Diving Shatters Records at GLIAC Championships

The Augustana University men’s swimming and diving team is making waves at the GLIAC Championships in Holland, Michigan, continuing a streak of impressive performances and record-breaking achievements. The team currently sits in seventh place with 203.5 points, fueled by a series of program bests and strong individual showings.

Binsfeld Dives to New Heights

David Binsfeld led the charge on Friday, excelling in the 3m dive. He outperformed competitors in the B-Final, earning a program record and a DII B Standard mark with a score of 484.15 points. Binsfeld previously qualified for the NCAA championship, becoming the first diver in the men’s program history to do so and took 7th place in 3-meter diving and 13th in 1-meter diving at the GLIAC Championships. He also earned Second Team All-America honors with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Relay Teams Dominate

Augustana’s relay teams also shone brightly. The 800 free relay team, comprised of Theo Tuunelis, Isaac Rokusek, Collin Wilcynski, and Juan Moncada, set a new program record with a time of 6:44.87, securing seventh place and 24 points. Tuunelis also achieved a record-breaking split time of 1:39.22 in the 200 free.

Further demonstrating their strength, Ethan Kinney, Mason Ward-Zeller, Peyton Bartsch, and Noah Mooney combined for a program-best time of 1:28.33 in the 200 medley relay time trial.

Individual Successes Fuel Team Performance

Simeon Stanoev delivered a strong performance in the 100 Breast, finishing sixth in the A-Final with a time of 55.37, narrowly missing a DII B Standard. Ward-Zeller, Noah Mayer, and Owen Bartee added to the point total with 11th, 12th, and 13th place finishes in the B-Finals, respectively.

In the 200 Fly, Juan Moncada and Brad Infield both earned spots in the B-Final, finishing 11th and 12th with times of 1:51.60 and 1:52.90, respectively.
