Fourteen Years in Prison Sought for Alleged Tampering of Stepmother’s Car Breaks: ‘If You Want Her to Crash, You Must Cooperate’

Auto Stunt Turns Deadly: Man Accused of Attempted Murder by Tampering with Ex-Girlfriend’s Car

In a chilling turn of events, a man from the Netherlands has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly tampering with his ex-girlfriend’s car, causing it to malfunction and putting her life at risk. The incident, which unfolded earlier this year, has left residents shocked and authorities deterring similar acts.

Prosecutors have accused the 37-year-old suspect, identified only as "Nico G" in the media, of intentionally damaging the car’s steering and brakes. The tampering reportedly occurred while the vehicle was parked outside his ex-girlfriend’s home in Vlaardingen, a city near Rotterdam.

The victim, a 35-year-old woman, escaped certain death only due to a happy coincidence. On one occasion, as she attempted to drive the car, she noticed it wasn’t responding correctly. She immediately called for roadside assistance, sparing her from what could have been a fatal accident.

Investigators, while examining the car, discovered evidence of tampering, leading them to suspect foul play. They subsequently contacted the woman, who revealed her suspicions about her ex-boyfriend given his ongoing resentment towards their split. Authorities then obtained recordings between the two, where Nico allegedly stated, "You want to kill her, right? You have to help me with that."

Nico’s defense attorney contends that the phrases were meant as jokes and that there was no malicious intent behind them. However, the prosecution maintains that these statements, alongside the tampering evidence, are sufficient to charge Nico with attempted murder.

If convicted, Nico could face up to 15 years in prison. The trial is set to commence later this month in a Rotterdam court. As the legal process unfolds, both the victim and the public await justice in this unsettling case that serves as a stark reminder of the dangerous routes relationship troubles can take.
