Four Suspects Apprehended Following Armed Robberies in Avoca
Four suspects were arrested this morning following a series of armed robberies in the Avoca area, resulting in the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and stolen electronics.
The incidents began at approximately 08h30, when the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received multiple WhatsApp alerts and emergency calls reporting an armed robbery on Tyne Avenue.
The Incidents on Tyne Avenue
According to the first victim, he was walking along Tyne Avenue when a blue VW Polo pulled over. Two suspects armed with firearms exited the vehicle, robbed him of his cellphone, and fled toward North Coast Road.
As Marshall Security members responded to the scene near a local business on Tyne Avenue, a second victim approached officers. She reported that she had also been robbed of her cellphone by the same suspects using a vehicle matching the description provided by the first victim.
Coordination and Arrest
Acting on information that the suspects might be in the Umhlanga area, the Marshall Security Special Operations Team launched a search. While patrolling near Lighthouse Road and Ridge Road, members spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspects’ car.

Working in coordination with the Metro Police Tracing Team, the vehicle was intercepted on Umhlanga Rocks Drive, where four suspects were successfully apprehended.
A subsequent search of the suspects and the vehicle led to the recovery of:
- Various cellphones
- Firearms with live ammunition
- Various other electronic devices
The suspects matched the descriptions provided by the victims and were positively linked to the crimes through the recovered property. All four individuals were transported to the Durban North SAPS for processing and further investigation.
Broader Implications and Investigation
Authorities believe these suspects may be linked to numerous other armed robberies within the Greenwood Park, Effingham, and Avoca areas. This operation highlights the significance of teamwork and close cooperation between law enforcement and private security in addressing violent crime through rapid response.
Next Steps for the Community
Marshall Security has urged any members of the public who may have been victims of similar robberies involving the same modus operandi to report the incidents to their nearest SAPS station.
Investigators believe the suspects could be linked to additional robbery incidents within the greater Durban area, and further reported cases may assist ongoing investigations.
