Emergency services responded to a serious head-on collision in the Merraskottunnelen on E134 in Sætre Thursday evening. The accident involved two vehicles and resulted in significant traffic disruption.

According to police operations leader Rune Hekkelstrand, the collision occurred front-to-front. One of the drivers sustained serious injuries.
“This is a serious traffic accident where one of those involved is seriously injured. The person is being cared for by ambulance personnel and will be transferred to an air ambulance,” Hekkelstrand stated.
Drammens Tidende reports that the injured individual, a woman, was initially described as being in serious to critical condition. She was subsequently airlifted to a hospital. As of 9:37 PM Thursday, police indicated that her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Second Driver Injured, Tunnel Temporarily Closed
The second driver, also a woman, sustained minor injuries and was assessed at the scene.

The Merraskottunnelen was closed in both directions following the accident, leading to significant traffic delays in the area. The tunnel was reopened to traffic around 9 PM.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. “We are interviewing witnesses and examining technical traces,” said the operations leader.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle driven by the woman who was airlifted to the hospital may have crossed into the opposing lane. “There were several witnesses to the accident,” Hekkelstrand added.
