Gechev Optimistic: Expects Parliament to Pass Budget by Easter Recess

Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has commented on the FY 2025 budget, expressing hope that deputies will approve it by the Easter holiday. In a statement made during Epiphany, Glavchev underscored that the government fulfilled its duty according to the Law on Public Finances and submitted the budget. He noted that stakeholders now have three options: modify, accept, or reject the budget.

"Up to this point, we’ve seen no appetite for any of these options," Glavchev noted. "I hope that deputies will accept the budget by Easter. Last year, we introduced a special law to regulate revenue collection and expenditure. This ensures we can gather the expected revenues."

The PM also expressed optimism about forming a regular government, stating that the process of distributing mandates has not yet begun, making it premature to discuss new elections.

Parliament officially started its Christmas vacation on December 22. parliamentary website shows that the Budget and Finance Committee will discuss the 2025 budget plan on January 7. Other topics on the agenda include changes to tax laws and a presentation by Finance Minister Ludmila Petkova.
