Tesla‘s Musk Draws Criticism for Interfering in German Election

German media tycoon and FDP party leader Christian Lindner has expressed astonishment at the magnitude of Elon Musk’s political involvement in Germany, deeming it unprecedented in Western democracies. Musk, an ardent supporters of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), has been openly backing the party ahead of the February 23 elections.

In a scathing remark, Lindner termed Musk’s endorsement of AfD as "intrusive and arrogant," adding that the tech billionaire’s actions were unparalleled in the history of democratic nations.

In a recent op-ed for the conservative German newspaper Die Welt, Musk hailed AfD as "the last hope for this country." The publication sparked outrage, leading to the resignation of a senior editor in protest.

Lindner mused, "Imagine the reaction from Americans if a prominent German businessman wrote a similar op-ed backing an outsider in the U.S. presidential campaign."

Musk, who owns the social media platform Twitter and ranks among the world’s wealthiest individuals, has emerged as a close advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump. Justifying his political involvement in Germany, Musk cited his role as CEO of electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, which operates a large factory east of Berlin.
