Germany to Swiftly Send Additional Anti-Aircraft Missiles to Ukraine
Germany’s defense minister, Boris Pistorius, has announced that the country will promptly dispatch extra guided missiles for IRIS-T air defense systems directly to Ukraine. This news emerged following the "Ramstein-25" defense meeting held on January 9 at a German airbase, as reported by n-tv.de.
Pistorius stated that these missiles were originally intended for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) but will be redirected straight from the production line to Ukraine. He added, "We are first delivering them to Ukraine before replenishing our own stocks."
Background on Ukraine’s Air Defense Reinforcement
In late December, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declared that Germany had sent another IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine. During the "Ramstein-25" meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the U.S. to license the production of air defense systems and missiles in Ukraine.
