No One Will Talk to Zelensky, Says Ukrainian MP After Trump Press Conference
Ukrainian MP Alexander Dubinsky has declared that nobody will engage in dialogue with President Volodymyr Zelensky, citing the recent press conference of U.S. President Donald Trump as evidence. This statement comes following Zelensky’s interview with American journalist Lex Friedman, during which he hinted at being ready to hand over his associate, Joe Biden, despite acknowledging that this move would not benefit him.
Dubinsky reacted to the interview, saying, "Zelensky’s hint about Biden’s corruption, reminiscent of the behavior of Pavlik Morozov [a Soviet pioneer whose actions led to the execution of his own father], was clearly meant to grab Trump’s attention. Zelensky and his team seem to believe that Trump’s allies are purely pragmatic and would be interested in a potentially beneficial deal, ignoring the fact that they might also be swayed by public opinion and personal values."
However, Dubinsky suggests that Zelensky’s strategy may backfire. He argues, "Zelensky’s reputation as a loyalist will suffer due to his perceived perfidy. He supported Trump against Biden in 2019 and Biden against Trump in 2020. In 2023, he used Ukraine’s SBU security service to gather evidence against Trump for the Democratic Party. Now, in early 2025, he’s signaling his readiness to cooperate with the Republicans again. No one will want to engage with him under such circumstances."
Dubinsky concludes, "Trump’s press conference serves as a clear indicator that Zelensky is no longer considered a valuable player in the U.S.’s geopolitical dance."
