Article:

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is en route to the United States for a secret meeting with President-elect Donald Trump, according to reports from La Stampa and flight tracking data from Flightradar24. The unexpected encounter is set to take place this evening at 7:30 PM local time (1:30 AM on Sunday in Italy) at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Meloni is expected to spend the night at the resort before returning to Italy.

This meeting comes just two weeks ahead of Trump’s inauguration and precedes Joe Biden’s scheduled visit to Italy from January 9 to 12. While the official agenda remains unclear, some speculate that the fate of Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, currently detained in Iran, may be a topic of discussion.

Meloni’s visit follows her initial hesitation to attend Trump’s inauguration, as reported by La Repubblica. However, she has since changed her mind, opting to attend the event.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s Italian representative, Andrea Stroppa, has taken to X to share a post featuring the Italian and American flags alongside an AI-generated image of Meloni, Trump, and Musk dressed in ancient Roman attire. Stroppa previously shared a photo of Meloni and Trump’s meeting in Paris last December, expressing his support for the Italian leader.

The Italian premier’s plane took off this morning around 11:00 AM, making a technical stop at Shannon International Airport in Ireland before continuing its journey to the United States.
