Police are treating a deliberate fire at The Maltman pub on West Regent Lane in Glasgow city centre as wilful following an emergency response that involved nine fire appliances.

Emergency services rushed to the rear of The Maltman on West Regent Lane at approximately 2.40pm on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The operation forced significant travel disruptions across the city centre. West Regent Street was closed from Hope Street to Renfield Street, and Renfield Street was shut from West Regent Street to West George Street while emergency teams brought the fire under control.

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “Around 3.15pm on Sunday, October 4, 2026, we were called to a report of a fire at premises in West Regent Lane, Glasgow. The fire is being treated as wilful, and enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information should contact 101, quoting incident number 1763 of October 4.” Authorities confirmed that there were no reports of any injuries or casualties stemming from the incident.

The Maltman’s ownership group issued a public statement addressing the damage and outlining their operational outlook. A spokesperson for Belhaven Brewery said: We are extremely grateful for the swift actions of emergency services after a fire broke out at The Maltman, Glasgow. Thankfully, no-one was harmed or injured and the fire was contained. We need to fully assess the situation but hope to have the pub back open as soon as possible.
