Pixel owners on Android 16 are experiencing edge-to-edge display issues within the Routines creator and editor in the Google Home application.
Specifically, certain interface elements are overlapping the status bar (close ‘x’ and checkmark) and navigation bar (“Remove action”). Moreover, page titles are being obscured by the front-facing camera.
When using 3-button navigation, the “Remove action” button falls behind the navigation bar and is unclickable. Similar obstruction affects the “Save” button, though it’s partially visible and thus tappable.
This issue prevents saving Actions after customization. For example, configuring a light color from a fullscreen picker is impossible. As a workaround, rotating to landscape orientation to activate the checkmark is one solution. Alternatively, utilize the system-level back gesture or button.
The root of the problem lies in how applications targeting Android 16 can no longer opt-out of edge-to-edge displays, necessitating adjustments by Google Home. Specifically, edge-to-edge transitions, once optional, are now mandatory.
This issue is currently affecting Google Home version 3.34 on Pixel phones and is not observed on the Samsung devices that were tested. A fix is anticipated in a future update.
