Researchers expressed particular concern over dynamic processes—abrupt shifts where glaciers retreat rapidly, such as Greenland’s Jakobshavn glacier retreating up to 164 feet per day. New York University ice scientist David Holland, who was not involved in the study, said the dominance of dynamical ice loss matches expectations for an ice sheet instability collapse scenario, calling the upward trend in the satellite data real and verified by independent methods.
