Title: Trump‘s remarks on Greenland sparks controversy, Kremlins watchful

The Kremlin is closely following statements by newly reelected U.S. President Donald Trump concerning the acquisition of control over Greenland, according to a report by American news channel CNBC.

Earlier this week, Trump stated that he does not rule out the use of military force to seize the strategically important Danish autonomous territory, citing U.S. economic and national interests.

Trump’s comments have drawn support among pro-Kremlin figures in Russia, with some of President Vladimir Putin’s close associates arguing that any U.S. attempt to claim Greenland would legitimize Russia’s own expansionist goals and ambitions to regain influence in former Soviet territories, such as the Baltic states.

European leaders have warned Trump that such a move would violate international borders, while Denmark and Greenland have both emphasized that the island is not for sale and hosts a U.S. military base.

Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with CNBC, stated that Russia is closely monitoring the situation.

"We are watching with great interest the rhetoric coming from Washington," Peskov commented, as translated by CNBC.

In the Kremlin’s first public comments on the matter, Peskov previously told journalists that Trump’s statements may primarily refer to U.S.-Danish bilateral relations.

"For now, thank God, the situation is at the level of statements," Peskov previously told Russia’s state-run news agency Tass.
