Groningen Airport Eelde continues to be in the running as a potential base for the Netherlands’ F-35 Joint Strike Fighter fleet, as the country plans to phase out its F-16 aircraft in the late 2020s. This comes as France successfully establishes its own F-35 squadrons, raising optimism in the Netherlands about the potential benefits of the stealth fighters.
French Success Stories
France’s experience with the F-35 provides a glimpse into what the Netherlands could expect from hosting the advanced aircraft. France is set to receive around 40 F-35As, and the first four have already arrived at Base Aérienne 123 in Île-de-France, with more deliveries expected soon.
