Guerrilla Games Revives Killzone Franchise in Early Stages of Production

Guerrilla Games is reviving the Killzone franchise with a new project currently in the very early stages of production. According to reporting from MP1st, the developer is collaborating with an external studio on what is widely expected to be a remake or remaster of an older title.

Guerrilla Games Revives Killzone Franchise in Early Development

PlayStation gamers who fondly remember the days of the premier first-person shooter franchise can expect a return to the series. Long sidelined in favor of the Horizon series since its initial debut as a competitor to Halo, Killzone is back on Guerrilla Games’ plate.

The project remains in its earliest stages, and officials do not expect an official public announcement anytime soon. While previous installments like Killzone: Shadow Fall launched for the PS4 back in 2013 and maintained active multiplayer servers until they shut down in August 2022, this new endeavor takes the series in a fresh direction by partnering with an outside team.

People Can Fly Tied to Project Delta Development

Industry whispers strongly point to People Can Fly as the external studio handling the hands-on development of the Killzone remake. The Poland-based developer behind Outriders and Bulletstorm signed an agreement with PlayStation back in March 2025 to co-develop a title codenamed Delta.

That agreement established the production of a prototype of a new video game codenamed Project Delta (the “Product”), based on intellectual property rights belonging to [the] Publisher.

While definitive confirmation of the connection remains under wraps, reporting indicates that Project Delta aligns directly with the new Killzone production, joining People Can Fly’s extensive roster of projects that also includes a 2K partnership codenamed Project Florence alongside licenses with Microsoft and Krafton.

Remaster Plans and Horizon Franchise Scheduling

Although ideas of a full series reboot have surfaced among developers, the most consistent intelligence suggests the project will serve as a visual uplift of an older classic, with common sense pointing toward the original 2004 PlayStation 2 release as the logical starting point.

Internal schedules at Guerrilla Games have shifted following recent evaluations of Horizon Hunters Gathering. Originally intended as Guerrilla’s immediate focus after that project, negative feedback and subsequent retooling into a more traditional multiplayer effort have altered studio priorities. Despite the early development window of the Killzone project, current plans place its release ahead of Horizon 3, which is currently being built by a tiny single-player team.
