Gaza Conflict: Hamas Recruits Fresh Fighters, empleoys Unexploded Israeli Bombs

In a developing story, Israeli media reports indicate that Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigade, has successfully recruited new fighters in the northern Gaza Strip. In an unconventional tactic, they are also utilizing undetonated Israeli bombs to target Israeli forces entering the region.

New Faces in the Fight

Radio Israel’s military source revealed on Tuesday evening that some of the Al-Qassam Brigade fighters engaged in battles in northern Gaza are veteran members who joined before October 7, 2023. However, a significant number are fresh recruits.

Unexploded Ordnance as Weaponry

Israeli forces believe that explosive materials used by Gaza fighters are partly sourced from undetonated Israeli bombs. In a creative turn, Hamas has repurposed these remnant bombs, leaving a stark message: "Your weapon returns to you."

Documenting Operations

Al-Qassam Brigade has consistently documented their operations against the occupying forces. A video shared shows them booby-trapping a house with a GBU missile, a remnant from a previous Israeli strike. As Israeli soldiers enter the trap, the message "Your Weapon Returns to You" flashes on the screen.

In another instance, Al-Qassam affirms using modified M20 artillery shells as rockets, targeting Israeli forces around Nitzarim.

Casualties and Operations

In the past 24 hours, three Israeli soldiers have lost their lives in Beit Hanoun, adding to the total of 43 fatalities among Israeli forces in northern Gaza over the past three months.

Israel’s military aim is to create a secure zone for northern border residents and maintain their safety. However, despite areas like Beit Lahia being "completely cleared and destroyed," Israeli forces anticipate potential Hamas fighters returning, albeit with greater difficulty.

Brigade Kfir’s Withdrawal

Following a three-month operation, the Israeli Defense Force announced that the Brigade Kfir has completed its mission in northern Gaza. This phase saw 12 Israeli soldiers killed and many more injured.

Since October 2023, Brigade Kfir, along with other Israeli forces, has partaken in intense battles in Beit Lahia, Jabalia refugee camp, and Beit Hanoun. The expansive operation has devastated the region, resulting in 43 Israeli soldier deaths, over 4,000 Palestinian fatalities or missing persons, and more than 12,000 injured.

Amidst the escalating conflict, Israel, backed by the US, has unleashed a massive war on Gaza since October 7, 2023. According to reports, over 155,000 Palestinian civilians, primarily children and women, have been killed, and more than 11,000 remain missing, amidst widespread destruction and worsening humanitarian crisis.
