In the wake of claims of harassment against attendees of the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) 2024, the Head of the Metropolitan Jakarta Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya), Inspector General Karyoto, has initiated a transfer of 34 personnel. This decision, outlined in Telegram No. ST/429/XII/KEP.2024 dated December 25, 2024, and obtained by Tempo, indicates a rotational policy aimed at ensuring transparency and maintaining public trust.
The order, signed by the Head of the Human Resources Bureau, Commissioner General Muh. Dwita Kumu Wardana, lists 34 police officers, predominantly from the Narcotics Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya. The officers are being transferred to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters (Yanma) for ‘further investigation,’ as stated in the circular.
The transfer includes three heads of sub-directorates at the Narcotics Directorate, namely AKBP Bariu Bawana, AKBP Wahyu Hidayat, and AKBP Malvino Edward Yusticia. Additionally, the Chief of the Narcotics Subdirectorate at the Metropolitan Jakarta Central Police Resort (Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat), Kompol Jamalinus Laba Pandapotan Nababan, has also been transferred.
Confirming the transfers, the Head of the Public Relations Bureau of Polda Metro Jaya, Komisaris Besar Ade Ary Syam Idradi, confirmed that 34 officers are indeed involved in the rotational policy as part of an ongoing investigation.
The notable transfers have sparked discussions within the police force, with the public eagerly awaiting more information about the allegations. The incident at DWP 2024 drew international attention after several Malaysian attendees claimed they were harassed and demanded to pay bribes during a drug raid that included compulsory urine tests.
