Mendoza Braces forHeavy Rain and Hail: Weather Alert Issued
MENDOZA, Argentina — The weather forecast for Mendoza has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and possible hail storms expected to hit the region this Monday. As the morning began with clear skies, forecasts from the province’s Contingency Direction indicated that intense storms are set to sweep through the area in the late afternoon.
The storms are anticipated to start simultaneously in the western outskirts of Greater Mendoza and in the southern areas, particularly around San Rafael. Later, the rainfall is expected to spread to the Uco Valley and the eastern regions. Models suggest that the southern and eastern areas could experience more severe storms.
Geographically, all regions of the province are expected to face stormy conditions. Although it’s not guaranteed, there’s a possibility of hail.
Amidst an ongoing heatwave across Argentina’s wine country, Monday’s weather warning has initiated an orange alert level for the eastern and southern regions of Mendoza. This means that isolated storms, some of which can be severe, are expected, accompanied by heavy downpours in short periods, intense electrical activity, and potentially large hailstones, along with strong gusts that could reach over 90 km/h (56 mph).
The accumulated rainfall is estimated to reach between 40 to 60 millimeters, but localised totals could surpass these amounts.
Meanwhile, there’s good news for those travelling to the high mountain regions, as the weather is expected to be stable, with no alerts issued by the National Meteorological Service (SMN). The border crossing to Chile remains open 24 hours a day, and the weather conditions remain favorable for travel.
The Passes of Mamuil Malal andDoc समान RI DOS DE LA CORDILLERA, are also open, allowing access to Chile from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. These passes are located in the southern part of the Malargüe department.
Stay informed and equipped to face these severe weather conditions, and enjoy a safe start to your week.
