Catastrophic Crash Between Kustendil and Kableshkovo: Teen Girl Dead, Five Horses Succumb
A horrific road crash occurred Saturday around 1 AM, along the stretch between Kustendil and the village of Yablkov, leaving an 18-year-old girl dead, several injured, and five horses deceased. The grim incident involved a light vehicle colliding with the equines that were on the road.
The teenager, a passenger in the car, succumbed to her injuries. The driver and another woman were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical care. Tragically, all five horses involved did not survive the impact.
Local authorities swiftly moved to identify and detain the horses’ owner. The existing electric fence along the road proved insufficient to prevent the animals from wandering onto the path. Despite the presence of an electrified pasture, the makeshift barrier was too low to effectively deter the horses.
Today’s scheduled Kustendil Kukeri Festival has been indefinitely postponed due to the catastrophic events.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of stringent safety measures and the delicate balance between human activity and wildlife. Our sympathies go out to all affected by this tragic accident.
As the investigation into the crash continues, authorities are urging locals to exercise caution while driving in rural areas and to report any animal-related road hazards promptly.
