Batam’s International Hang Nadim Airport Bolsters Preparedness Against Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) and Influenza A
In response to the detection of the human metapneumovirus (HMPV) and Influenza A in Malaysia, Batam’s International Hang Nadim Airport (BIB) has stepped up its precautions to prevent the spread of these viruses and safeguard the health of its passengers.
PT Bandara Internasional Batam (BIB) has made passenger and visitor health a top priority, implementing preventive measures at both arrival and departure areas. "We are ensuring the health and safety of our passengers and visitors, with a focus on prevention," said Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah, Director of BIB, on Tuesday (7/1).
The airport’s attention is particularly drawn to the HMPV issue, given Batam’s high volume of air traffic. BIB, together with the Airport Health Office (KKP) and relevant stakeholders, has prepared strategic measures to combat this threat.
Measures Taken:
1. Sanitization Stations: Hand sanitizers are still available throughout the terminal, a practice that BIB has continued since the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. Health Clinics: A health clinic within the terminal works in conjunction with the quarantine inspection post (BBKK) to ensure swift responses to potential infectious diseases.
3. Isolation Rooms: The arrival area for international passengers has designated isolation rooms for those displaying symptoms during screening.
4. Health Awareness: Digital monitors across the terminal display reminders for passengers to maintain their health during air travel, including wearing a mask if unwell.
5. Enhanced Screening: Strict monitoring of international passengers is in place. They are required to use the SATUSEHAT app, which is reviewed by BBKK officials upon arrival. Additionally, routine temperature checks are conducted using thermometers strategically placed at arrival areas.
BIB remains committed to passenger safety and health, continuously coordinating with relevant authorities to keep its security measures up-to-date. The airport’s vigilance ensures a secure travel environment for passengers.
