On Friday, January 3, 2025, around 3:30 PM WIB, Pantai Pangandaran witnessed a heart-wrenching incident that underscored the bravery and selflessness of its protectors. A police officer, Bripka Anditya Munartomo, succumbed to his heroic efforts to save a young life, leaving behind a tale of courage that has deeply moved the community.
Instant Response to a Life in Danger
Bripka Anditya, a 35-year-old member of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), was enjoying a leisurely swim off the shore of Pantai Pangandaran when he noticed Sevina Azahra, a 14-year-old teenage girl, struggling to keep afloat in the strong currents. Without a moment’s hesitation, Anditya and his companion, Bripka Wahyu, rushed to her aid.
A Challenging Rescue
The officers managed to reach Sevina, but a massive wave hit them, sweeping all three, along with a nearby market vendor named Supri, approximately 40 meters away from the shore. In the face of this dire situation, Bripka Wahyu managed to grab hold of a boogie board and make his way back to safety. Tragically, Bripka Anditya and Sevina were ultimately rescued by a nearby fishing boat, but the currents had taken a heavy toll.
Tragic Loss
Despite immediate evacuation efforts, Bripka Anditya was pronounced dead upon arrival at RS Pandega Hospital. His selfless act resulted in the attempted rescue of four lives, ultimately leading to the saving of three.
