Breaking News: Historic Gård Threatened by Major Fire in Arendal

Arendal, Norway – Emergency services received a report of a significant fire at Torbjørnsbu gård, a historic property on the outskirts of Arendal city center, at 5:03 AM today. Upon arrival, firefighters found the building fully engulfed in flames, posing an immediate threat of spreading to the main dwelling.

Operational leader Eyvind Formo of Agder Police described the scene, stating, "It was fully ablaze when we arrived. The building has been burned to the ground."

Burnt Building Identified

The burnt structure was identified as a storage or garage building, which had previously served other functions. Its striking feature, a bell on the roof, is believed to have been used to signal mealtimes during the gård’s mining era.

Historic Gård Under Threat

Torbjørnsbu gård, built in 1870, is a significant historical landmark in Arendal. Initially administered for mining operations, the gård’s main house was at risk of being consumed by the flames. However, firefighters managed to contain the spread and prevent possible devastation.

Fire Under Control, Cause Unknown

By 5:44 AM, police confirmed that the fire was under control, but smoldering embers and remnant flames persisted. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and police will commence an investigation once fire operations conclude.

Operational leader Formo confirmed, "We have some cameras in the area we can check. The extinguishing process is still ongoing, so it’s too early for us to start the investigation yet."
